DR. NCHEKWUBE has always been on the cutting edge of Integrative Medicine. Among many of the therapies he offers, NAD Therapy is based on the latest research and clinical practices. Whether you are just interested in the Anti-Aging aspect of the therapy or you (or a loved one) are suffering with an addiction, this therapy is one of the most exciting treatments to arise in the field of Medicine. This program (as all Doctor Nchekwube’s therapeutic programs) addresses mind, body, and spirit. His goal is to address the whole person and return you to a state of Balance and Wellness!

NAD INTRAVENOUS THERAPY is available for the treatment of Age-Related Decline, Diminution of Wellbeing, Fatigue, Depression, and most fascinatingly, Drug Addiction!
Intravenous administration of NAD is one of the most direct ways of controlling and ablating Cravings from drug addiction in a short period of time- permanently! For most addictive drugs, including alcohol, it takes about 10 to 13 days to permanently achieve detoxification.

After treatment;  the individual would experience increased energy, increased clarity of mind, better focus, increased motivation and most importantly, no urge or strange cravings for alcohol or drugs!

Additionally, NAD has been shown to reduce signs of aging in the average person. Some individuals use NAD Intravenous Therapy for improvement in their overall health or just to give their life a boost; the proverbial joie de vivre!

SO WHAT IS NAD?

NAD+ is the name used in various scientific literature for a cellular compound called NICOTINAMIDE ADENINE DINUCLEOTIDE (NAD). Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) is a metabolic coenzyme. It functions in the structuring, repairing, and remodeling each cell in the human body. These coenzymes require constant replacement in the body. However; stress, many drugs, and alcohol abuse causes the human brain to reorganize, especially at the cellular level. A process known as neuroadaptation is the direct cause of addiction-related brain damage and or loss of neurotransmitters. Intravenous therapy with NAD has been shown to replenish drained coenzymes and aid in the restoration of the depleted brain.

NAD+ is an ubiquitous molecule found in every cell in the body. It is essential to life. NAD helps transfer energy from our foods to vital cell functions in the human body. NAD is needed by human beings to “turn off” genes which increase degenerative changes in the aging processes. With aging, NAD+ levels decline. As we age, the mitochondria’s function and number become impaired, resulting in fewer mitochondria. The loss of function and number of mitochondria lead to many of the physical symptoms and some of the diseases observed in aging.

INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE ADDICTION PROGRAM (IMAP)

GOAL:

DETOX PATIENTS AND RETURN THEM TO WHOLENESS AND A NORMAL LIFE USING, AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, A NATURAL & HOLISTIC APPROACH…DETOX & RECOVERY THROUGH TREATING THE MIND, BODY, & SPIRIT.

INTRODUCTION:

The major part of treating patients with drug addiction, mood disorders, fatigue, and chronic diseases using Integrative Medicine; is looking for the underlying conditions in the body that contribute to their development. Some of the underlying causes include: major life stresses, food sensitivities, gluten intolerance, adrenal and thyroid imbalances, malabsorption, neurotransmitter deficiency, and NAD deficiency. These conditions can be managed mostly with nutritional supplementation, and mind body therapies.

The patient is treated with intravenous NAD and nutraceuticals, including amino acids; based on customized protocols for a 10 day period.

This treatment improves brain function due to higher levels of Intracellular Energy and increased production of neurotransmitters; such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. Milder withdrawal symptoms are experienced by most people for the first two or three days with the therapy. Generally, the withdrawal symptoms are reduced by 70-80%, when compared to others who go through it without this therapy.  After three to five days of natural therapies and as withdrawal symptoms disappear – cravings subside and clarity of mind is achieved!

THE PROCESS OF NAD INTRAVENOUS THERAPY

The NAD intravenous therapy is individualized for each patient and it varies from day to day. On each day of the treatment an IV line is established. In a comfortable lounge-like environment; the patient relaxes in a chair, while the intravenous formulation slowly infuses through the vein. While the NAD infuses; the patient may nap, read, watch television, eat healthy medicinal foods, or meditate in a comfortable easy-chair.

The discomfort of withdrawal and cravings subsides quickly and remains controlled. The fourth and eighth day marks when the   average patient reports feelings of tremendous mental clarity and         improved sense of wellbeing. Generally NAD infusions are well tolerated. Some of the minor side effects often disappear at the termination of the infusion. Major physical symptoms of the    withdrawal from addictions are resolved with the natural treatment using NAD. It is, however, recommended that the full protocol be completed in order to make a clean break from the physical symptoms of addiction.

The full protocol addresses the whole individual; their mind, body, and spirit; as all of these need to be addressed for a complete recovery & healthy life!

Food for Thought

“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.” – Marcus Tillius Cicero

Your Organic Garden

It’s really quite easy to plant and grow a flourishing organic garden. It all begins thinking of your organic garden as an integrated ecosystem built upon nature’s principles, not man’s laboratory creations.

The foundation for organic gardening is biodiversity. In the wild, a variety of plants and wildlife exist interdependently-providing shelter, moisture, continual bloom when pollen is available for insects, and support for all the creatures within the system.

You can apply the biodiversity principle at home by following these key steps in organic gardening:

  • Build-up the soil
  • Use natural fertilizer and pest control
  • Choose companion plants for your climate zone
  • Arrange plants so they provide a habitat for insects and wildlife that actually benefit garden health.

If you combine these principles with good gardening habits, you’ll soon have an organic green thumb (and lots of delicious, good-for-you vegetables to eat)!

It’s Not Just Dirt!

What’s the difference between how the organic gardener feeds a garden compared to the conventional gardener? The conventional gardener feeds the plant (with chemicals from a lab), while the organic gardener feeds the soil.

Soil is living matter full of as many as 50 billion microscopic plants and organisms! Soil, and the creatures living in it, requires air and water to thrive. If you don’t know the condition of your soil, contact your local master gardening organization, or university agriculture department-both will usually test soil for free or a nominal fee. When buying soil, you want it largely composed of organic material (read the package label).

To maintain and protect organic soil:

  • Continually feed with organic matter-compost, manure, leaves, straw, and grass clippings.
  • Weed regularly.
  • Incorporate companion plants that naturally tame weed growth.
  • Check plant packaging or a regional organic gardening guide to learn how to properly select and space plants to best match the yield you want from your garden.
  • Use mulch.

Protect Against Pests and Fertilize, Naturally

Synthetic herbicides and insecticides seep into groundwater, affect the health of wildlife and plants, and can contaminate your food. These chemicals also kill off beneficial insects that are part of nature’s pest control system.

Synthetic fertilizers are not recommended for an organic garden because residual chemicals, including salts, can interfere with plant growth and even build-up in lawns. For example, quick-release high nitrogen fertilizers produce lush foliage but damage root structure – a plant’s only way to extract nutrients.

Your best defense against pests is preventing a problem to begin with. You can accomplish this in a number of ways, all of which will invite natural enemies of pests into your growing area. Plus, these are great practices for any size garden:

  • Carefully select plants for the your climate zone, build-up your soil, and plant in appropriate light/shade and space for the growing season.
  • Water early in the day, not at night. Keep water in the root zone, not aimed at the plant.
  • Maintain “plant personal space.” Prune plants and weed to maintain good air circulation and prevent crowding, which can spread disease.
  • Use netting or chicken wire to keep out pests that scurry around your yard.
  • Learn to properly use botanical poisons, chemicals extracted from plants or minerals that are toxic to plant predatory insects (ex. Neem, certain essential oils).

You can also search online for resources to help you with natural, integrated pest management (IPM). These resources can also help you resolve a pest problem.

More Ways to Earn Your Organic Green Thumb

Once your soil is in good condition and your ready to plant, follow these tips to start, and keep, your organic garden growing.

Prepare & Maintain: Clean-up your garden area in the fall. Remove all debris and weeds from a vegetable garden. Do not compost weeds – you might transfer seeds to your compost pile. Prep the soil. In spring and summer maintain weeding and mulching. If you don’t have a local seed supplier, check online for a seed catalog and order early.

Right Plant, Right Place, Right Time. Decide if you will start from seed or young plant. Planting time will vary. Choose plants based on your growing zone, which is shown on the seed packaging or found online. Consider a vegetable plant’s need for light/shade, moisture and the weather patterns typical for your area. Check the yield on the packaging for plants that you intend to grow. Some plants produce rapidly, such as cucumbers and tomatoes.

Go Native. It makes sense to use plants that are known to successfully grow in your area. Native species, seeds or plants, can be found at local growers and community supported agriculture (CSA) farms. These farmers can also tell you if a native plant has been prone to disease in your area.

Go Disease-Resistant. Certain varieties of vegetables are the superheroes of disease resistance, and are easy to grow. A partial list: Green beans, snap beans, yellow wax beans, cucumbers, Zucchini elite, black magic eggplant, Lady Bell Pepper; Klondike Yellow Bell; Cubanelle, Italian Sweet, Cherry Sweet. Tomato- Jet Star, Jackpot, Supersteak, Supersweet Cherry, Cherry Presto.

Diverse Companions. Include, and properly space, a variety of companion plants – herbs and flowers – with your vegetables, according to your growing zone. For example, dill, parsley, and angelica, can be planted near your vegetable garden to attract beneficial insects and enhance biodiversity.

Keep a Garden Journal. Note weather patterns, combinations of plants and effects on growth and pest control. Record the yield from your plants and their quality (appearance and taste). Take photos throughout the growing season.

One of my favorite herbs- Dandelion!

Go Wild with Dandelion Greens (one of Michael’s favorite herbs)!!

This is one of my favorite herbs! If you have come into The Wellness Shoppe anytime in the last couple months I probably have been drinking the liquid tincture of Dandelion in my water as I help you fill your Patient Care Plan from Doctor Nchekwube!

As an herbalist, I use every part of the dandelion, especially at the turning of the seasons as we leave Winter behind and beckon in Spring. I find that it aids in digestion and detoxification, thus allowing us to tap the energy we had buried within ourselves during the darkness of Winter. It is also a great herbal tonic to rid yourself of any lingering seasonal blues and rejuvenate yourself as it aids in the kidney, liver, lymphatic-cleansing, and bile-flow processes.

You might not want dandelions (Taraxacum officinale) dappled across your lawn, but you definitely want to make them a part your healthy diet. For centuries, the sunny yellow dandelion, its greens and roots, has been embraced across cultures for its culinary and medicinal uses.

Dandelion roots contain several compounds beneficial to health, one of which is bitter taraxacin, which stimulates digestion. The leaves are rich in potassium, antioxidants such as Vitamin A and Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and several B vitamins.

Dandelion helps filter waste products from the bloodstream. In many cultures it has been used as a liver tonic, diuretic, and digestive aid. Herbalists have used dandelion to treat jaundice, cirrhosis and liver dysfunction. Preliminary research suggests dandelion may even strengthen liver and gallbladder function.

All parts of the dandelion are edible. The bittersweet roots may be eaten raw, steamed or dried, roasted and ground for a coffee substitute. The flowers are commonly used to make wine and jam. Dandelion greens can be eaten steamed, boiled, sauteed, braised or raw in salads.

Try adding dandelion greens to:

  • quiche, omelette
  • pesto
  • sauce such as garlic & olive oil
  • dips
  • seafood soup
  • sauteed vegetables
  • to replace some of the kale in a green smoothie
  • stuffing

Dandelion packs as much power in its flavor as it does in its nutrition. It can quickly overpower more delicate herbs and flavors-a little goes a long way.

When harvesting dandelion, especially for salad, take greens from young and tender plants, before the first flower emerges. Please do not pick them from the roadside or a well-manicured lawn as they probably have been sprayed with poisonous and toxic insecticides, pesticides, and/or industrial fertilizers. At the grocery store, look for organic dandelion with vibrant green color. I buy my greens in the organic produce section of the grocery store, wild-harvest the plants/roots from deep within the woods and swamps of our beautiful Indiana, and purchase my clinical-grade liquid Dandelion extract by Gaia Herbs from our very own The Wellness Shoppe.
